Sanctuaries in the state

There are 9 wildlife sanctuaries in Telangana.  They are:
  • Kawwal Wildlife Sanctuary: It is spread over the districts of Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal and Good Governance.  Its area is 892.31 sq.km.
  • This is adjacent to the Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra and the Indravati Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh.  
  • Private Wildlife Conservation Center: It is located in the Goodwill District.  (Pranahita River basin)
  • Saturday Sanctuary: Maranyarala and Periyapalli Districts.
  • Etur Nagaram Sanctuary: It is located in the Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district.  The oldest sanctuary in the state.  The river Godavari flows through it.  It contains giant caves and epigraphs of prehistoric times.
  • Paral Sanctuary: Sprawled in Mahabubabad and Warangal Rural Districts.
  • Kinnarasani Sanctuary: Bhadradri is located in Kothagudem district.

Most tiger state in the country - Karnataka (406).

Abrabad Sanctuary: It is called the Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary.  It is spread across the Nagarkarnool and Nallagonda districts.  The sanctuary was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1978 and a tiger reserve in 1983.  It was also divided during the partition of the state.  The state government has issued a decree on February 6, 2015 recognizing it as the center of tiger care in the state.  It extends across the Krishna river basin.  It includes a total of 15 tigers.
The Government has enacted a number of programs pursuant to Article 48 and Article 51 (a) of the Constitution for the protection of wildlife.
The Government established the Indian Board for Wildlife in 1952 for the protection of wildlife.  It is chaired by the Prime Minister.  The Wildlife Protection Act was enacted in 1972 in all states (except Jammu and Kashmir).  The tiger has been declared a national animal since April 1, 1973. Under this law, the country has taken some initiatives regarding endangered animals.  They are called National Wildlife Conservation Projects.  Project Tiger - Operation Elephanta Reserves - Operation Crocodile - Operation Seaturtle.

On April 1, 1973, 9 Tiger Reserves were announced in the country by launching a project called Operation Tiger.  - Number of tiger reserves in the country - 50 - First tiger reserve in the country - Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka)

Operation Elephant

Elephanta Reserves opened in February 1992.  - This project is called the Countdown project.
Most elephants in the country are in Karnataka (4,452).
Currently there are 31 elephant care centers in 14 states.  The country's elephants are divided into three categories.  They are:
1.  Green Area (if human dominance is high).
2.  Yellow Area (Human and Elephant Conflict Area).
3.  Red area (dominated by elephants) 
Medicinal Sanctuary: Ananthagiri (Vikarabad) -Manjira Sanctuary: Sangareddy District -Pocational Sanctuary: Medak District.

Operation Crocodile

  • This project was launched in 1974 in the world in collaboration with UNDP.  The country began in 1975.  Crocodile Bank has been set up in Chennai to crocodile the country.  - The fastest endangered species of crocodiles.
